party like its 1988!!!

This is the first post of three that will conclude the recent barrage of March Madness posts for the year. It's been a great run for the Jayhawks! Ed and I made the trip to Lawrence yesterday for the celebratory (albeit short and sans much fanfare) parade celebrating the KU national basketball championship. I was in Lawrence for the last go-around 20 years ago...so it was pretty neat to hook up with Jenn on Mass Street and celebrate all over again. Although we didn't actually know each other when we were students at KU, our lives have had some intesting parallels, and its no small wonder that our paths eventually led us to each other!

After the parade, there was an awards presentation at Allen Fieldhouse which we also attended. Bill Self spoke at length and one of the most remarkable things he shared was his response to the media when he was repeatedly pressed throughout the season to answer the question about who the 'go-to guy on the team' was. His reply was always "whoever is open." What a great response, and a great lesson to be shared with anyone who is part of ANY sort of a team...on the field/court/water ... or off ...
