my favorite things

Yeah, yeah, yeah...
.
Raindrops on roses,
and whiskers on kittens...
.
We all know that my blog is definitely not rocket science. Most often, it really doesn't say much of anything at all. It is, however, a place where I can stash some of my favorite things (e.g., photos, recipes, etc., etc.). Consider it a trip into my feeble mind!
.
Today, for example...Desiderata by Max Ehrmann (c. 1927). I'm not quite sure what made me think of it as I was reading the newspaper and drinking my coffee this morning, but it came to mind...and I couldn't shake it. Soooooo, I went to seek it out on line and am now stashing on my blog (a) for easy reference when I want to come back to it; and (b) to share it with you! Enjoy...

Desiderata
.
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and
lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

What are some of your favorite things?

  1. The greening of spring, a glass of wine, music, comfy shoes and underwear, considerate people, getting homework done before Grey's Anatomy is on at eight, dinner in the crockpot (gotta do more of that), a massage, animals, that feeling on the last day of school, good friends, family and Johnny!

  2. All of the above, Sister! I've got a great crock pot recipe for beef stroganoff if you want it... also for peppers stuffed w/ rice, beans, and corn (sorry...I've adapted the meat of that recipe). Let me know if you want either of those recipes, and I'll post 'em! : ) BTW, how many days left of school?

    JENN...did you nap in my honor today?

  3. I'd love the recipes! Thank you.

    I'll probably work through the end of May so that makes it 40ish days for me. With kids...about 33 I think.

    The rest of the summer...I'm going to try to keep it pretty open with the exception of a few classes.

  4. My favorite things?

    Books, I read 2-3 books every week. I don't know how I manage to read with 3 children. I read when I cook, while I do the laundering, before I sleep..

    My dog, my friends, sleeping, layer cake, my family, food, chocolate...

    Donna, you asked if I would translate my 100 things about.. I'm working on it, but my kids have got the flu at the moment.
