R&R: Big Cedar

We returned yesterday from a fabulous getaway with our good friends Paul and Marilee. A pilgrimage to their personal Mecca, they’ve been making the trip to Big Cedar in Southern Missouri for well over twenty years. This was four days of R&R that will not soon be forgotten! We hiked, biked, lazed, read, laughed, and enjoyed great food and drink. Marilee even introduced us to 'over-the-top oatmeal'!!!

Although I neglected to take pix of the "cabin" that we we called 'home' for four days, these from the Big Cedar website will give you an idea that it was definitely not an ordinary cabin!

On Monday, we took our bikes for a breathtaking ride through Dogwood Canyon. We got about twenty miles out of this picture- perfect day. The pix here are not necessarily in the order in which we came across the photo-ops.

Welcome to Arkansas!!!

the end of the bike trail...

We went for a GREAT hike on Tuesday morning/afternoon...and Tuesday evening, we retraced the stage three time trial course of the Tour of Missouri which came through the Branson area on 9/13. This stage was 18 miles of SOUTHERN MISSOURI HILLS!!! Any of the guys that came to the race thinking the Midwest was flat and boring certainly learned a thing or two that day!

We went into town for dinner and were entertained by a street kiosk Super Shammy salesman. We took the bait…hook, line, and sinker…and will let you know if we got a fair shake on our two-for-one deal!
.

After making a hard-earned sale with us, we were off to dinner for a great water-side fire and fountain extravaganza.

Today...it’s back to work for us...
and time to start dreaming of our next vaca! : )
