nurses day

Today marks the end of Nurses Week, celebrated each year for the seven days ending on May 12... the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
.
Florence Nightingale is regarded as the founder of the modern nursing profession. She was a visionary pioneer who changed the way that the injured and sick were treated. She was also an inspiration in the founding of the Red Cross.
.
The span of yer life was ninety years (1820-1910)... remarkable given the demanding nature of her work and calling, and the difficult life she led. Little did she know during her lifetime, how nursing as a profession would evolve. Sources indicate that the shortage of registered nurses in the United States could reach as high as 500,000 by the year 2025.
.
To my colleagues and friends who are nurses... thank you for the work you do. You make all the difference in the world to a patient in need, or a family member needing reassurance. Your cool and confident nature, and take-charge can-do attitude are admirable indeed.
