alaska: day four

Sunday was a day of puttering about Anchorage. A friend of ours graduated from West Anchorage High School before ultimately going on to Texas A&M to complete his PhD in statistics... so we stopped by the old alma mater to snap a few shots for him. We ran into the very knowledgeable 'Mr. Williamson' (aka the band director and athletic director of WAHS) who actually took the first three photos below, and shared with us a wealth of local lore.
. .
The mural on the side of the high school was a gift from the class of 1971. At the time, school officials forbade the class from noting this on the wall. BUT... the artists found a very discreet way to work in a '71'... can you find it? (Hint: look at the eagle's left leg...)
.

.
The high school was about one mile from downtown Anchorage, which you can see behind us from the scenic overlook, below...
. .
The Anchorage fine art and natural history museums are expanding, and work is currently being done on a new building. I couldn't resist snapping the shot below over the construction fence. This is going to be a very striking building when all is said and done. It sort of reminded me of an ice cube, and definitely had a transparent effect...
. .
The photo below is especially for Jenn. In an afternoon walk through the town squre, I was fortunate to catch this candid of the Anchorage Fire Department between fires.
