alaska: day one

Wow. And you thought TEXAS was big. Alaska is 586,412 square miles in area, with nearly 34000 miles of shoreline. Simply put, Alaska is the size of Texas times TWO...or Kansas or Nebraska times SEVEN. It took me a couple of days to acclimate to the time change... and meanwhile, a whopping head cold took stronghold.
.
I'll post pix of the trip by day for the most part. To get you started are a few photos taken from the room of the Anchorage hotel we stayed in. It seems that there was another event on the base that was taking up the rooms, so we got snoodged off. It was sunny and 60-ish almost every day... and the mountains were absolutely breathtaking... every day.
