dim sum overload

Yum. I met my good friends June and Cindy for dim sum this afternoon at about 12:30. Not only was the company fabulously entertaining, the feasting was phrenetic!
.
To those of you who have not experienced dim sum before... dim sum is a traditional Chinese cuisine... an event, if you will...where a variety of foods (including several kinds of steamed or fried dumplings) are served successively in small portions...offered by wait staff pushing carts from table to table. In Kansas City, Bo Lings is known for its weekend dim sum.
.
June and Cindy were already seated when I arrived, ergo a nice hot pot of tea was on the table when I sat down. We eased into it, with the carts rolling by slowly, at first. With several that rolled by, we were language-challenged...so if weren't 'sold' by the appearance of the food alone, we wrinkled our noses, and sent the cart driver on his/her way.
.
As it soon became apparent that we had 'settled in' for the meal, the carts came by with greater frequency. At one point, we all looked at eachother and laughed, because there was a dim sum cart behind me, one to June's left, and one to Cindy's right...all offering their succulent little treats at the same time! Talk about dim sum OVERLOAD!
.
As the feasting frenzy slowed, and we finished sipping our tea...we agreed that maybe a monthly dim sum event is in order. By the time February rolls around, we will be on the doorstep of the Chinese New Year, which begins on February 7...and the beginning of the "Year of the Rat." Chinese astrologers tell us that we can expect 12 months of plentiful opportunities and prospects not to mention it being a year relatively free of turbulence. We'll see what it all brings...
.
Dim sum...to be sure ~ but hold the rat please... vegetarian for me!
