a weekend dash

We made a quick dash to Omaha over the weekend for the retirement ceremony of one of Ed's good friends and comrades from the 710 up at Offutt. I'm always humbled to be amongst Ed's military colleagues, each exemplary in his or her own right... many of whom have served active duty for many years or been deployed one or more times in their careers.
.
Below, Nick makes closing remarks at his retirement ceremony... after thirty years in the Air Force Reserve. He retired as the First Shirt of his unit and remarked yesterday that there are two kinds of people that he liked work with... outstanding and out-processing!
.

Ed was honored to serve in the Color Guard...

Below, he stands with the Commander of his unit. Colonel Gonzalez has been a wonderful mentor to him throughout the years...
We capped it all by meeting my parents for breakfast this morning. It was an unseasonable 70-ish and sunny in Omaha... quite odd for the first of November!

  1. Sounds like a great weekend!

I'm always in awe of individuals who are willing to commit so much to serve.

    Thank you, Ed!

  2. After 11 years out of uniform I still dream about being in the service. Thank god that most of the dreams are no longer about combat in Vietnam. Most of my dreams now are about some facet of where are my socks or my uniform of my hat. We all owe a salute to those that serve and Veteran's day is coming soon. MUD, COL (Ret)
