re thing #24: host a true 'pot luck' dinner…
.
This was a bit of an experiment... but one that I knew would be successful. Over the past five to ten years - we've collected a wonderful group of friends that are all excellent cooks.
.
Before everyone had kids, we used to get together at least weekly for some kind of feast. Now... its a bit more challenging to pull off. Time is short for all of us, so things are much more intentional and much less spontaneous.
.
With the same group of friends... a few years ago we started a "Foodies" tradition. The *host* plans the menu and makes the food preparation assignments, decorates for the occasion, and provides table service and drinks... and... invites a *guest couple.* This is where the fun starts!
.
Sooooo... last Saturday evening, POT LUCK it was! Meal preparation was assigned in general food groups... i.e. appetizer, soup, salad, bread, side dish or vegetable, main dish, and dessert...
.
We ended up with: salsa & guacamole w/ chips, split pea soup, bok choy asian salad, orzo salad, dilly bread, crock-pot pulled pork, fontina mac & cheese, green bean casserole, twinkie surprise, lemon yogurt cake, espresso martinis... and a whole bunch of new recipes to add into our own meal rotations.
.
Yummy! We ate, drank, and were very merry. And... we laughed until our sides absolutlely ached.

Yes, and somewhere there appeared martini's made with coffee? I hear that you still get a hangover but you don't want to fall asleep as fast. Sounds like the kind of parties we had years ago. MUD
ReplyDeleteWe should do this for girls weekend give everyone a catagory of food to bring and see what happens, what do you think?
