thing #10

It really is remarkable that there is so much available at our very fingertips... that we just don't have the time... or make the time to enjoy. Re thing #10: attend the symphony...

Last evening, we attended a performance of the Kansas City Symphony - under the baton of Michael Stern (acclaimed son of the legendary violinist Isaac Stern). The program was Griffes (a relative unknown to me... but lovely just the same); Tavener - a U.S. premier of a concerto written for and played by violinist Nicola Benedetti (very challenging to listen to); and Schumann (Symphony #2... you just can't go wrong!).

This orchestra has come a long way in the few years that Maestro Stern has been in residence. I watched and listened - enthralled - last evening as he conducted the entire Schumann score from memory. Absolutely amazing.

A good friend of ours is a violinist in the symphony... so we had also made plans to walk across the street to the Marriott to enjoy a glass of wine and catch up with her and her husband following the performance. It was a wonderful evening!
